AccuFleet Driver Training - Employers Section
At Accufleet Driver Training, we recognise that a lot of businesses do not fully understand how little or how much work needs to be done regarding workplace road safety. Some employers provide lots of training for their drivers but have no written driving policy. Others carry out lots of assessments but fail to improve any high risk drivers.
For that reason, we now offer free, no obligation, assessements of your current training, assessments, policies and paper trails. This is not so that we can pressure you in to having lots of unnecessary training but so that we can help you to become fully compliant with the current rules and regulations.
Corporate Manslaughter and Health&Safety at Work legislation dictates that all companies should carry out a risk assessment of all work-related driving activities. Companies with more than 5 employees are required to make a written assessment. Failure to do so puts the company management at risk of prosecution in the event of a fatal road collision. Follow this link for more information on current legislation.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you have a company policy on driving for work? Do you have a handbook giving advice and information to employees about road safety?
- Do your drivers regularly check the roadworthiness of their vehicles? Are they trained to do so? Is there any record of such checks?
- Have your drivers been risk assessed? Have high risk drivers been offered any training? Do you offer induction training to new employees and check their licences, health and references?
- Do you monitor the occurrence of driving incidents? Do you provide appropriate reassessment or training in the event of a collision? Do you employ Black Box technology or “How Am I Driving” schemes?
- Are licences and vehicle paperwork checked regularly with evidence to support this?
- Do you motivate employees to improve their road safety records with award schemes?
- Do you consider safety first when purchasing new vehicles?
- Do you also consider occasional drivers – those who only driving once a month?
- Do you have an identified Director to manage occupational road risk who understands the company’s legal commitments?
- Do you invite employees to suggest ideas relating to reducing road risk?
If you answer NO to any of these questions you, the company, could face prosection in the event of a fatal road collision involving one of your workers – employed or self-employed. This could result in an unlimited fine as well as a remedial order and even a publicity order! Follow this link for more information about minimising your company’s road risk.
